Program Description

ProWorld - Volunteer Teaching Programs in Thailand

Description

If you’ve wondered what government run schools in Southeast Asia are like, immerse yourself in this one. With 200 students from grades K-9, you’ll cut your international teaching teeth with English and Environmental Science classes. After school, you can create sports programs or art clubs or just hang out and play games.

You’d be responsible for:

--Teaching English to students between 7-14 years old
--Creating Environmental Science curriculum
--Supplementing lessons with the nearby Elephant habitat initiative

Highlights

Home to over 300 temples and 400,000 people, Chiang Mai is one of Thailand’s largest and most important cities. Located in the mountainous north, 500 miles from Bangkok, it was constructed in 1296 as a city square with moats marking its boundaries, giving it a quirky, mythic character. Agriculture is the mainstay of the local economy, with tourism a close second.

The rainy season (Nov- March) is warm, with temperatures hovering around 25°C (80°C). The hot season can see a blistering, humid 40°C (105°F) at midday, but averages just 30°C (85°F). Don’t forget a light raincoat.

Thai Language Classes:

One of the best ways to show respect for another country and people is to learn the local language. To improve your experience and effectiveness in Thailand, all volunteers are required to take Thai class for a few hours a week. This will help you communicate better with your new friends. Classes focus on everyday conversation and speech.

Weekends are yours for exploring this delightful country. Some of our volunteer favorites are:

Take a Thai cooking class
Get fit with Muay Thai in a Thai boxing class
Ride an elephant and take a tour with the mahouts
Trek to tribal villages and raft through the rainforest
Relax with a Thai massage
Traditional Thai Khantoke Dinner and Dancing
We offer organized trips at the beginning of your program, with the remaining weekends left free for you to choose your own adventure.
