Program Description
Teach English in Spain with LanguageCorps
Description
LanguageCorps offers a TESOL Certification Program in Barcelona and Seville: an accredited four-week training course that include 120+ hours of classroom time and the most important part of any quality TESOL certificate course, at least 6 hours of Observed Teaching Practice with local EFL students.
Highlights
Seville is the capital of Andalusia, the largest city in Southern Spain, and the home of such famed operatic characters as Carmen, Figaro, and Don Juan.
Renowned throughout Spain for the vitality, humor, and joie de vivre of her inhabitants, Seville is famed for colorful festivals, vibrant cafe culture, and theatrical riches. The week-long spring festival, the Feria de Abril, is not to be missed. Food and drink, music and dancing, parades of mounted gentlemen and beautiful dancers, all flow day and night from the customary field of tented pavilions.
Legends of Hercules' local exploits aside, ancient Seville was founded when the Guadalquivir River shifted away from the nearby Roman city Italica (the ruins of which are not to be missed). Known as Hispalis during the Roman Empire and Isbiliya under the Moors, Seville's past remains present in abundance. From the flower-decked Santa Cruz quarter to the La Maestranza bullring, Seville's graceful blending of Moorish, Gothic, and Renaissance styles defines Mediterranean elegance.
Our Training Center in Seville is centrally located in a traditional and lively neighborhood. From the rooftop terrace, trainees have a beautiful view of the world-famous Sevilla Cathedral and Giralda tower -- a mere 100 meters away! The Center is also equipped with large, modern classrooms and quiet lesson-planning offices.
Barcelona, Catalonia's capital, sparkles with vibrant colors and intense energy. Home to some of the most visionary artists of the modern era, Barcelona inspired Picasso's Cubism and Dali's Surrealism. Thanks to its location on the Mediterranean, Barcelona enjoys a pleasant climate year-round with mild winters and hot sunny summers with a refreshing sea breeze. Outdoor activities, from swimming in the Mediterranean to skiing in the Pyrenees, are popular and easily accessible.
Our Training Center in Barcelona is on "La Rambla de Catalunya." This central boulevard is easily one of the most emblematic of Barcelona -- full of restaurants, museums and surrounded by centuries of glorious architecture. The Center itself has ten classrooms, a lovely terrace, and is equipped with all the comforts of home.
The TESOL Certification Program prepares graduates to teach English effectively in any classroom in the world. Designed for those with or without previous teaching experience, this intensive, accredited training program includes instruction from experienced trainers, classroom observation of professional teachers, and teaching practice with language learners. Participants learn how to lead classes using the communicative approach and teaching students to use real-world language for real-world situations. Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to teach adult ESL/EFL classes of different levels, feel comfortable choosing the right material to teach a given class, and complement their classes with audio-visual aids.

Successful LanguageCorps teachers are true global citizens. They are comfortable with, and excited about, genuine intercultural exchange. They embrace opportunities to share their own cultural identity with others, and to immerse themselves in new and different worlds. While neither previous teaching experience nor foreign language skills are required, all LanguageCorps teachers must possess excellent native-level English, a college degree, a valid passport; and must complete an application, interview, and background check.

I will never forget my first month in Barcelona last September. It was exciting, overwhelming, and full of adjustments. Getting certified to teach, adjusting to a new country, and exploring my new home was a lot to take on in just a month. That month was well worth it. I became comfortable teaching English through hands on experience and was supported by a great staff. I also met my new lifelong friends and landed my first teaching job. After that month I knew I was where I was meant to be.
Seven months later I am still in Barcelona with many of my friends from my TEFL course. These past months have been filled with so many experiences, obstacles, and memories that I will never forget. Teaching English abroad is definitely not easy at times. There will be obstacles that you will encounter but don't let them stop you.
I have two months left in this remarkable city and I am enjoying every second of it. This city is full of amazing people and opportunities and I am so lucky to be here. Living in Barcelona has truly been the experience of a lifetime.

LanguageCorps directed me to a great TEFL program in Barcelona. I was really impressed with the standards and quality of the course, and felt really prepared to start teaching English. I was in a really big group (40 of us) so we got less individual attention than normal, but they still were able to help us get on track. Barcelona is a great city to teach English in...Madrid probably has more opportunities, but I think Barcelona overall is a much nicer city...can't beat the beach right there!!

I worked with LanguageCorps to obtain a CELTA certification this past fall (2011). The whole experience was wonderful. LC helped me every step of the way, from the initial application to securing a place to live during the program, and even offered to help arranging plane tickets and visa applications. They were very communicative and open to questions, and that took away a lot of the nervousness for me. I had a great time in Sevilla and I would highly recommend LanguageCorps for anyone who is thinking of teaching abroad.

My experience through language corps was absolutely fantastic! I did the TEFL/ TESOL course in Barcelona. The staff is really great and supportive to help you through the whole course as well as after when looking for jobs. I remember my first class I was so nervous that I almost started to cry, but thanks to this course I learned how to be a confident, organized and prepared teacher. I am currently teaching at a high school near Segovia, Spain and have taken so much from what I learned at Language Corps to use in my classroom. Thanks for everything!
