Highlights
ProWorld’s India programs are headquartered in the city of Udaipur. Known as the “Venice of the East” for its waterways and distinctive temples and palaces, this beautiful Rajasthan capital is a bustling city with both panache and poverty. Mewari is the most prevalent language, but you’ll also hear Hindi and English. Plan your visit in February and celebrate Holi, when Indians welcome spring by throwing colorful powder on one another.
Udaipur has a tropical climate with three main seasons: summer, monsoon and winter. Come prepared for hot and humid weather in the summer, with temperatures reading over 38.8C (101 F). Winters are mild, with lows typically around 11C (50F).
Weekends are yours for exploring this delightful country. Some of our volunteer favorites are:
--Visiting ancient forts, temples, and palaces
--Taking an Indian cooking class
--Attend a tabla concert and Rasjasthani dance show
--Travel further afield to the Red Fort in Jaipur
--Having your picture taken at the Taj Mahal
--We offer organized trips at the beginning of your program, with the remaining weekends left free for you to choose your own adventure.
