Program Description

Assist community education projects on this six month internship

Description

This six month internship scheme allows participants to assist children’s education projects and learn Portuguese. A dedicated staff supervisor will work alongside and train volunteers for 12 weeks, whilst participants also learn Portuguese and teach children on the project. Once the first phase is complete, volunteers will undertake more project management roles.

You will have 60 hours of group Portuguese classes, teach in the communities and shadow GVI field staff, undertake teaching and training workshops, gain an internationally recognized certificate in Team Leading and assist with the running of the program. This internship aims to allow the participants to make a real difference to the lives of underprivileged children and be trained in the skills of project management and team leadership. Paid or unpaid work positions available for qualifying candidates.

Highlights

A substantial part of the fee goes towards the day-to-day running costs of the projects themselves throughout the year, which includes local salaries, fruit and other food for the children, educational materials for classes, monthly birthday and other celebrations, painting and maintenance. The children would receive no education if this program did not exist.

Developing your personnel management, leadership and teaching skills through formal training presentations and linguistic skills with 60 hours of group Portuguese classes, gain an internationally recognised BTEC certificate in Team Leading, opportunities to speak Portuguese 24 hours a day. Living and breathing Salvador, teaching children, vibrant Brazilian culture, learning about Brazilian dance and cookery, world-famous Brazilian beaches, optional cultural workshops and excursions, amazing community interaction.

Interns live in Salvador, or Bahia as the locals call it, on the North Eastern coast of Brazil, flanked by some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Salvador is a short flight to Rio de Janeiro and with such easy access to the beaches and surrounding areas, including the Amazon jungle, it is the perfect base from which to conduct our work.
