Argentina Teaching English
Description
The ability to speak English is a valuable skill for Argentineans wishing to succeed, but the recent economic recession has made quality tuition hard to come by. The government cannot afford to attract native-speakers into Argentina to teach, and parents lack funds to educate their children in appropriate establishments. With the aid of the online TEFL course included in the programme, you be able to transform the attitudes of the many people who attend the classes. You have the opportunity to choose between teaching underprivileged children or unemployed adults.
* Option 1: Colegio Filii Dei (minimum placement duration 2 weeks)
This is a K-12 (primary and secondary) school located in one of the largest shantytowns of Buenos Aires, the Villa 31. You will be working as an assistant to the English teachers at the school. The school has very few resources and the teachers are extremely keen to have native English speakers helping in the classroom. Students are between 9 and 18 years old and 95% of them live in the shantytown. Classes generally have between 35 and 45 students. You may be asked to organise special projects with the kids/teens or help with tutoring. All work takes place in the afternoons.
* Option 2: SRE (minimum placement duration 4 weeks)
This is a training centre for unemployed or under-employed adults looking to gain more job skills. Students are 18 years old plus and are divided into two groups: beginner and advanced. You will be required to plan, prepare for and execute four 90-minute classes per week, two on Tuesdays and two on Thursdays. You will NOT be assisting another teacher; rather you will be handling all of the classes on your own.
Highlights
Argentina is a South-American country with a great deal to offer. It provides a truly diverse range of attractions for visitors from high culture offered by the country's museums, architecture and rich traditional art forms, to an energetic spectrum of activities including some of the best water and snow sports to be found in the world. A land of breath-taking beauty and dramatic vistas, Argentina offers the traveller an experience like no other.
Argentina is the second largest country in South America, almost 30% of Europe's total area. European influence is strong with around 85% of the population being of European descent, something that is reflected in the culture.
