Everything as a NET teacher depends on the school you work in. Leave behind any ideas you have of being a professional teacher and realise that teaching in HK is often doing mindless and pointless 'lessons' that have little educational value. Be prepared to work with English teachers who are often unable to communicate in English (they'll know grammar very well) and will make snide comments about you getting a 'housing allowance' when they don't. Be prepared for Principals who exhibit behaviour which could be perceived as 'strange or odd' by most westerners. Most of all, be prepared for the isolation and loneliness you'll feel, especially when made to attend 3 hour staff meetings (often after school and on a Friday) all in Cantonese which the Principal insists you must attend. Be prepared also to attend 'meetings' to discuss the next 'meeting' and what will be discussed at the next meeting. Meetings are the mainstay of HK schools. Be prepared to always look 'busy' (or BC as locals say)and for your knowledge of your native language to constantly be queried by those who can barely speak it.
Good luck to anyone braving the NET scheme in HK. Take your sense of humour..and if you don;t have one, don't go.

I taught in Georgia for 6 months and wish I could commit for longer.
The people, the food, and the family + friends orientated communities made sure I felt at home from day one.
TLG where super nice, but Teach Away - who I applied through - were on hand to answer all questions and emails promptly, and gave me so much information on the country.
I would certainly recommend this program to anyone seeking a unique experience.
