The deadline for the Go Teach Abroad scholarship application is March 20, 2012. The award for each scholarship is $1,000. Go Overseas is proud to support teachers and international education through our Go Teach Abroad Scholarship.

Further Information:

• Go Teach Abroad Scholarships are awarded each year. The award for each scholarship is $1,000
• Go Overseas will judge entries based on the following criteria: Creativity of writing sample, displayed analytical thinking, and passion for teaching abroad and/or teaching a foreign language
• The Go Teach Abroad Scholarship is open to all current or aspiring teachers. The sole purpose of this award is to assist in the funding of participation in teaching program abroad or supplement the costs of purchasing materials for use in the classroom.
• Outstanding Go Teach Abroad Scholarship submissions will be posted on the Go Overseas website. All scholarship recipients will be asked to participate in an interview

Eligibility:

The Go Teach Abroad scholarship is intended to help promote diversity in the classroom. The scholarship assists in providing teachers with the resources to promote understanding and appreciation of other cultures. With the above in mind, Go Overseas will accept applications from teachers (or aspiring teachers) who meet one of the following requirements:

• Teachers who require financial assistance in order to teach English, or another foreign language, abroad. Example: A teacher who wants to teach English in Africa, but does not have the financial means to fund the trip.

• A student planning on applying for a Master’s degree with a focus in International Education and/or Languages. Example: A teacher who would like to earn a Master’s in TESOL, but does not have the financial means to do so.

• Teachers who intend on using the funds to promote diversity, foreign language and knowledge of other cultures in the classroom. Example: A teacher who needs funds to purchase updated language textbooks or tools for their students.

Application Requirements:

The Go Teach Abroad Scholarship consists of two parts, one required and one optional:

Part 1 (Required): Why is cultural diversity important to you?

Part 2 (Optional): How have you promoted cultural diversity amongst your peers?

Requirements Post-Award:

• An article for the Go Teach Abroad blog detailing how the funds were put to use
• Optional: a video of a creative lesson plan incorporating a foreign language and/or culture

Note: This is certainly optional, but we have seen great submissions in the past, which are useful to all Go Overseas users.
