Teach English in Batumi, Georgia

Today, we're introducing one of the most picturesque cities in all of Georgia, the pretty seaside city of Batumi. As the capital city of Adjara, an autonomous region in southwest Georgia, Batumi is located along the coast of the Black Sea. The city may be small and quaint, but it packs a huge punch in terms of development, offering picture-perfect landscapes from every angle.

Whether it's miles of beautiful sand beaches, mountain terrain, or lush forests, you'll find that the city of Batumi has something to offer everyone. It's no wonder that it is receiving international investment opportunities from all over the world. Even Donald Trump recognizes the potential in this sleepy seaside community, and he is currently building a new tower, luxury living quarters and new hotels in Batumi.

All of this may be great for tourists, but imagine what life would be like if you were provided with the opportunity to live there year-round. Last year a program called Teach and Learn in Georgia was launched (sponsored by the Georgian Ministry of Education and Science), which is looking for native English speakers to come to Georgia to teach English to Georgian schoolchildren. Program benefits include:

  • Free flights to and from Georgia
  • Free room and board with a Georgian family
  • Monthly stipend of approximately $300USD
  • Teaching position within a Georgian public schools
  • Personal letter of recommendation from the President of Georgia himself!

Short and long term teaching contracts are available, so whether you have four months off after graduating from university or you’re looking to take a gap year, teaching English in Georgia might be the perfect opportunity for you to get to know this gorgeous country in Eastern Europe!

In addition to the scenery, people living in Batumi have access to many modern amenities. Even within this small and often conservative country, you will find that the nightlife in Batumi is quite entertaining. While the scene may not compare to places like New York, if you want to go out and dance, there are plenty of options to choose from. Most of the hot spots are open air venues right on the beach, such as the Tarabua Beach Club, which has large dance areas and a list of international DJs that provide fresh beats throughout the night. Take that, New York!

Batumi is a great place to hang one's hat for a short vacation or for a long-term teaching assignment. Now that the Ministry of Education is changing their entire education system to include English language lessons, they are seeking hundreds of teachers to come and improve the English language ability of their students. This is a great opportunity to experience the wonder of Batumi for anyone who’s interested in spending a few months in Georgia or for those individuals that are looking for an interesting way to spend a gap year.
