I just arrived home last Thursday as I spent a month in Spain after leaving France.
GeoVisions did a superb job matching a French family and a Canadian English instructor!!! Thank You for being the liaison in connecting us. Besides having 4 wonderful children to work with I also had access to the countryside for daily walks with their chocolate lab dog. Living with and meeting friends and relatives of my host family was an excellent way for me to experience the French culture, and partake in French cuisine daily. My relationship with the family shall continue.
I believe it is a plus that the application process with Geovisions allows for candidates to look at the family resumes and see if they would be comfortable living with the family and vice versa. Access to a Geovisions staff member is readily available, another plus!
I would certainly recommend Geovisions to anyone wishing to share their English skills in exchange for experiencing a new culture.
Thanks for providing opportunities for enhancing one's life.

I feel very lucky that I had the opportunity to participate in a GeoVisions program as part of my Around the World - Adventure of Hope.
Randy and the team at GeoVisions pulled together my placement very quickly and managed to do it during a challenging time of year in Vietnam (I was in the country over the Tet holiday where many of the schools and businesses shut down).
During my month in Vietnam, I had the chance to spend time in Ha Noi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh city and stayed in a hotel, with a host family in a house, and with a host in a small apartment.
The best part of the experience with GeoVisions was the cultural immersion. If you are nervous about traveling overseas and want someone to take care of every single detail for you, this may not be the right program for you. But, if you have traveled before and you want to experience life like the locals do, GeoVisions is an excellent choice. I felt like I got the support when I needed it (i.e. pick ups at the airport or train station/rides to meetings/and orientation to each city). But, I also had free time to explore on my own.
Given my area of interest, I wanted to meet doctors and support groups in the cancer world. In both Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh city, GeoVisions introduced me to a couple of people and I was then able to network and build many more relationships and volunteer in both cities.
If you are a self starter and want to create a memorable experience, Geo Visions is a great option. Also, if you're trying to decide on a destination, I highly recommend Vietnam. Although like many developing countries, the garbage, the traffic, and the pollution take some getting used to, the warmth of the people is second to none. I feel incredibly lucky to have made some new Vietnamese friends (including my very gracious hosts) and after a month in the country would very much look forward to an opportunity to go back.

I spent the summer of 2011 with a family in Civitanova Marche. I lived with a family who had one son. The family was absolutely amazing, and they took me into their home and treated me like family. I truly felt at home being with them. 5 days a week I would sit down with the son for an hour and teach him an English lesson. We worked on vocabulary through games. We worked on words that are used on a daily basis. I used the resources provided by GeoVisions, which were generally just ideas to spur a lesson. From the ideas, I would build on them. I used the internet a lot to find short movies, google translator (when we were really stuck), and images.
On the weekends, I would travel to nearby cities to site-see. I did have difficulty finding friends at first because of the location of the family home. We were not located in a town with easy walking as we were located in the countryside of beach area. I had to count on the family to drive me places. I did meet up with people, and we were able to travel together on the weekends or meet up on a week night. The good thing about it is that once we did get to hanging out, we continued our friendships back in the States. I actually just got back from Denver from meeting up with them.
I absolutely loved my time abroad in Civitanova and chalk it up to getting placed with a family that was a perfect fit for me.

Overall my experience with the Conversation Corp program from GeoVisions in Italy was very positive. My assignment was to spend 15-20 hours a week tutoring two lovely Italian teenagers [13 and 16] in English. To my surprise, both of them were already quite good so that was actually more of a challenge then I had imagined. Also, the parents inadvertently began learning some English as well which he kids had great fun mimicking and acting out, you'd be surprised how similar 'angry' and 'hungry' sound to an Italian.
I had traveled to Italy previously for a semester abroad and vacation. Once that travel bug hit me again, I was seeking a new way to explore a culture I already knew I loved. The home-stay program was wonderful for anyone seeking to really get involved with a family and their local network. I was told some families only want a tutor and some families want the whole experience, thankfully mine was the latter. [State that this kind of experience is what you are looking for on your app to avoid the first kind].
I suggest this program if you are a comfortable, independent traveler looking for a unique experience in a country. If you don't have prior Italian language experience, make sure you put that app as well. I was in an area where no one spoke English save one or two people and it was a challenge I loved [even though it was intimidating at times], but if that's not for you, tell them.
I have already been back to visit my Italian host family throughout my continued travels and the kids and I Facebook chat regularly. I don't keep up the blog I began during my time there anymore, allieinitaly.tumblr.com, but it's still up for anyone looking to learn more about the program or the beloved seaside town of Porto Sant'Elpidio.

I signed up for Geo Visions Conversation Partners in early 2012 and I was matched with a family in March. There were a few communication glitches in the pre-departure process, but everything worked out. Living in Italy has always been a dream of mine, and this seemed like the perfect way to be introduced to the culture and make some Italian friends. I have been here for two days and my host family (a couple my age with no children) have been wonderful. They are very flexible and easy-going, and their schedules will allow me lots of free time to explore the Florence/Tuscany region. So far, everything has been great and Geo Visions has followed through on everything they said they would.

The family I stayed with didn't want to do formalized English tutoring and instead preferred to simply practice through normal interaction.
The volunteering was very simple and quite frankly was more cultural exchange than volunteering.
The family treated extremely well. I had freedom to go and do what I wanted and my own key. They provided me plenty of food and help in getting around town. They were very concerned with my safety and ensured that I always was taken care of.
They included me in family events and celebrations and made sure that I had a good cultural experience and understanding of Lebanon.

The conversation corps program was less of a volunteering experience for me and more of a cultural exchange. The family did not want any formalized teaching but instead just preferred I interacted with them regularly. Therefore the volunteer portion was quite simple.
My days were completely free to go explore around Amman and surrounding towns and ruins. I was also able to go to Petra and the Dead Sea.
The family I was placed with was very nice and would include me in family events and take me into Amman to site see and get great food!
The only downside was that the home was a bit far outside of the city - so it was hard to get to town easily. I took the local buses - which ended up being really fun as the the Jordanians were so genuinely helpful to any tourists. Strangers paid for my bus rides, and rode with me to ensure I got to the right destination.
Overall the people in Jordan were eager to interact and be ultra helpful. Often inviting me into their homes or businesses to simply interact. I felt completely safe as a solo female traveler.
